Getting it right - How to supply your files...
Whether you request a proof or not, you should follow the guidelines below when designing artwork you will be supplying to us for print.
We cannot guarantee results if you do not follow these guidelines, or request our File Checking Service
-
File Types
Our system is based on a PDF workflow so where possible please supply your artwork as a composite PDF, although we can also accept other file types such as JPEG, TIFF and EPS. If you wish to supply full artwork files in packages such as Quark Xpress, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop please make sure all fonts and images are either outlined and embedded or supplied with the job. Upload all your files together within one zipped folder clearly labelled with your name.
-
Layout
Most of our products are standard A sizes. Business cards are 55x85mm. Please provide all artwork in a one up basis as single pages not spreads. For more guidance on sizes download our product templates click here
-
Bleed
Please include 3mm bleed to all edges of your artwork if an image is intended to extend right to the edge of the page. All text should be inset at least 5mm from the edge of the page. For more information about bleed download our product templates click here
-
Images
All images used should have a resolution of 300dpi and be converted to CMYK. Images should preferably be saved as TIFFs. We can accept images in other formats although results cannot be guaranteed.
-
Colour
All artwork must be supplied in CMYK format. Please note that scanners and digital cameras create images in RGB format, these images should be converted to CMYK using a package like Photoshop. If this conversion is not performed our workflow will apply a standard profile RGB-CMYK conversion meaning that colours may look washed out. You should also note that colours as they appear on screen are not a true representation of the final printed colours.
-
Fonts
When saving your PDF all fonts must be embedded. If supplying other artwork formats fonts should be outlined or embedded where possible, or supplied with the job as a zipped/stuffed file.

Resolution
Before sending us your artwork, please note that a photograph or other pixel-based image needs a resolution of just 72 dpi (dots per inch) to display correctly on screen. However, our high resolution printing presses require images at around 300 dpi - anything less may print with a pixilated 'jaggy' look. Please check the resolution of your images carefully - just because they look good on screen doesn't mean they'll print properly!
Solids
Our printing presses are capable of truly amazing results. However, good quality results rely on good quality artwork and there are a couple of considerations you should keep in mind when creating your artwork files...
Large areas of solid colour are a printer's worst nightmare. Whilst darker colours usually reproduce very well, large areas of a lighter colour can sometimes suffer from banding (faint stripes). For best results, use a mix of all four CMYK colour channels or avoid large solid areas by adding textures or images.
